Let’s BBQ!

On to the next August birthday card… this one for my other brother in law, Todd.  Another masculine birthday card – YIKES!  Thank goodness my order of stamps from Stamping Bella arrived just in time and I had the forethought to order the Big Guy Grilling.  What a great image!!  I stamped it with SU Chocolate Chip ink and coloured it in with Copics. The tan paper and background grey are from the AC Cardstock pack – Earth Tones.  I also got to use our It’s a Man thing stamp from Elzybells (so sad they are closing) as a background on the tan paper.  The sketch for this card was inspired by The Spotted Chick with slight changes.   I had fun making this card… maybe guy cards aren’t so hard after all!!??  Sandi

Take flight!

August is ‘crazy birthday month’ for me so here is the start of my creations for various friends and relatives.  The hardest thing is that 3 of the 5 birthday cards I need to make are for men – who doesn’t struggle with creating masculine cards!?

This one is for Lori’s husband Jim. They both love to travel so when we got the Fly Away stamp set from Papertrey Ink it just had to be used in connection with this Cities background stamp from Inkadinkadoo.  I stamped the plane and tag on Neenah Paper and coloured them both with Copics.  The plane is mounted on black and then the plane and tag are raised slightly from the checked paper (BasicGrey – basics kraft paper pad).   They are connected with a new product called Baker’s Twine which Lori found while on their trip to the Maritimes this summer.   I can see so many fun uses for this product!  The clouds are hand cut from white felt.

I wasn’t sure what colour I was going to mount the finished card on until I spotted the Krafty Thursday challenge on one of my absolute favourite blogs by The Spotted Chick.  Jeanie makes wonderful creations which I love and I aspire to be more like her!!!  So here is my first attempt at playing along with this weeks Krafty Thursday Challenge #34!  Sandi

So nervous!!!

Here it is… Lori’s birthday card.  I had such a hard time deciding what to create.  I mean really, she’s my sister, fellow stamper and blogger, creative wonder and probably my best friend!! Talk about pressure – what stamp do I use, what paper, to embellish or not to embellish – the choices were endless.  Well, when it came right down to it I took a deep breath and thought of the things that she would like.  Lori’s favourite colour is blue so that’s where I started.  The poodle stamp (from Imaginisce) screamed pink and frilly, but when I found the circle paper I decided I could make it work.  I coloured Miss Poodle with Copics and softened the edges around her with chalk (I even got in that touch of pink if you look closely).  I created the pattern on the green paper with a floral stamp using VersaMark and the sentiment comes from the Elzybells set called Swirly Greetings.  All in all I think she was tickled pink (or in this case blue)!!!  Sandi

Here is a close up of Miss Poodle.

Father’s Day… well sort of.

Well, this was suppose to be Rob’s Father’s Day card from the kids… however it didn’t quite work out that way!  The kids and I were at the cottage for the Father’s Day weekend and Rob was at home due to a prior commitment.  By the time we got home on Sunday it was time to grab a quick supper, throw the kids in the tub and then get ready for bed.  They gave him the things they had made at school but the card got forgotten in the hub-bub.  Anyway…. I’m thinking it might work for his birthday so sssshhhhh, don’t tell him!

The card features several items that you can find on the Die Cuts are Us website.  I fell in love with the Claudia & Co. Stamps when they first came out and made use of Emma and Noah on this card.  The have a slight resemblance to Ellery and Cade so they were a must have.  I stamped them with tuxedo black memento ink and coloured them with Copics.  The papers are also from DCRU and can be found in the paper sampler section.   What a great way to try new things without committing to an entire paper pack.   I believe this set was called Cosmo Cricket’s Earth Love.  Our fellow card maker, Joanne had the tiny butterfly punch and it was a great idea to finish it off.  Sandi

A Masculine Thank You

It’s always nice to have a few cards around so that you can write a note of thanks to someone in a timely manner.  My husband, Jim, sits on a couple of boards and they frequently have guests come to speak at their various events so I thought it would be nice to have a few cards prepared.  It seems to be a challenge to have thank you cards suitable for men so I made up four of these little tailored 4X4 cards that will be perfect to give to his male guest speakers.

This card, on its kraft cardstock base also fits with the That’s Krafty Thursday #31 challenge from The Spotted Chick blog.  We’ve really been enjoying her blog and sense of humour not to mention her terrific designs.

The grid on this card (hard to see in the photo) was created by scoring my 3.5″ paper every 1/2″ with my Scor-Pal and then turning it 90° and repeating the process. Lori

School is out!!

Here we are at the end of June and Ellery is just about finished her very first year at school.  She had a great time in french immersion kindergarten and is looking forward to being in grade 1 next year.  Madame Williams did a wonderful job with the kids so this card is a great big thank you to her.  I wanted something that was all Ellery and I think I found it in Betty the Bookworm from Stamping Bella.  Ellery’s favourite colours are yellow and pink so it was my goal to incorporate both of those in this card.  I used copic markers to colour Betty and mostly scrap pieces for the better part of the card.  She was lots of fun to make!  Sandi

Thanks to some great teachers!!

It’s so hard to believe that we are approaching the end of June, activities are winding up and we are in full cottage mode.  Cade was enrolled in a wonderful preschool program this year so I made these cards to thank his teacher and her assistant.  The first uses Spencer the Bookworm from Stamping Bella.  I got braver and used our copic markers to colour him.  I discovered that part of the secret to using copics is to use higher quality paper and ink.  The image was stamped with Momento, Tuxedo Black.  His teacher was absolutely fabulous and he is excited to be seeing her again in the fall for ‘senior preschool’!!  I got the idea for this card from one of the blogs that I follow  Karen Motz – Paper Playhouse

The second card was for the assistant teacher and uses Yo-Yo from Elzybells Art Stamps.  Sandi

Congrats Katherine!!

Our cousin Katherine graduated from University this spring so it was a great chance to ink my Betty the Bookworm stamp from Stamping Bella. I coloured her with a combination of pencil crayons and copics (my copic markers still scare me a little bit – lol).  The papers were pulled from the scrap bin (I think the strips are from the Sweet Talk paper pad by atd.)  The sentiment stamp is from a new set we just received from Elzybells called Swirly Greetings Sandi

Birthday fun!

This didn’t turn out to be the best picture, but I thought I would post it anyway.  I made this card for my father-in-law for his birthday.  The DP is from the Wild Raspberry paper pad by K&C Company and the stamps are a set from Hero Arts. Sandi

What’s cuter than a Baby card…

I didn’t have anyone in mind when I made this card – Lori was making a baby card so I jumped on the band wagon.  It’s always good to have some extra cards in our stock pile.  This was one of those cards that everytime I tried to cut something… crimp something… or glue something on it all went wrong.  I must have crimped the purple strip 4 times before I got the size right.  It wasn’t my best day of card making.  However, in the end it turned out alright and I just need someone to have a little girl baby to give it to.  Sandi

Supplies:  Paper – K & C Company, Berry Sweet pack, various card stock; flowers

Mother’s Day – Copy Cat

I decided that this year my mom and my mother in law could get basically the same Mother’s Day card – with a twist of course!  I chose the same basic layout, but changed up the colours and the feel for each card.  Lori and I had just received some Spellbinders so it was a great chance to try them out!  Lori suggested turning the big label sideways and it created just the right shape for the sentiment.  I thought I might have a favourite when I was done, but I ended up liking them both.  Sandi

I used a sketch out of the Paper Crafts magazine – Go to Sketches (Maren) and used paper from the DCWV pack – Latte Stack.

Lemonade

I found this little wooden stamp of the lemonade stand in a shop called Paper Tales while on holidays in San Diego, California. By coincidence, Sandi had ordered the sentiment from Stamping Bella and the two of them work perfectly together!

This was my first attempt at colouring with Copics.  I think it turned out pretty well but you soon realize that even if you have 40 or so markers you’re still fairly restricted as to what colour combos you can do.  I’m going to have to keep my eyes open for some good sales and widen our selection. Lori

  • I used Stampin’ Up! kraft card stock as the card base
  • I took some patterned paper that just had the orange flowers and I added the yellow and blue accents to create my own patterned paper
  • I embossed the teal paper with my Cuttlebug embossing folder “shapes” (From Oh My Crafts)
  • I added a polkadot silk flower, some bright orange ribbon and couple of buttons to finish the embellishments

Oh Baby!

It’s always fun to make a baby card.  I got to use my new Provo Crafts Cuttlebug embossing folder “shapes” (From Oh My Crafts) for the blue paper on this one as well as a paper crimper for the matting on the clothesline.  I found a little accessory pack of baby tags (by K&Company) and this cute clothesline became the feature piece that brought everything together.  Little baby Nash is due this weekend but according to the soon-to-be-dad it’s looking more like he’ll be late.  Lori

Birthday Wishes

I made this card for a friend’s birthday.  The little Hedgey and his flowers seemed perfect for a spring celebration.

This design was based off of Amy’s sketch at Prairie Paper and Ink.  We have a small collection of Hedgey stamps from Penny Black including some adorable Christmas ones that will be making an appearance sometime in the fall!  This one is called Delights and was purchased from Arnie’s Arts N Crafts Lori

The Journey

“An experience or process that leaves you changed; trail of experience.  From here to there”.

I made this card for my Aunt’s retirement.  The journey definition from the Stampin’ Up! set Define Your Life is the feature component of this card and I thought it was perfectly suited for retirement and not just travel.  The design is from a sample by Anne Matasci. I thought her colours and style were just the feel that I wanted for this card so I recreated her design. Lori
